Alcohol Addiction

Gambling
The compulsion to gamble may have caught you unawares. For some, it arises without precedent or seemingly valid explanation. Others can tie it to a displacement from other addictive behaviour or to an escape from internal anxiety or feelings of a loss of control.

Questions to ask yourself to determine if you have a problem include:

  • Do you gamble to pay debts and expenses?
  • Do you gamble in celebration of prior gambling wins?
  • Has your gambling influenced the way that others around you view you?
  • Do you feel regret or remorse after gambling?
  • Do you find yourself unable to stop gambling once you have begun?

If these questions in part or in whole resonate with your situation, you could have a problem that psychotherapy and counselling could help you to address.

Individual therapy allows a focused analysis of these patterns, an exploration of their origin, and the ability to explore new solutions. Group therapy allows the same advantages as individual therapy while allowing you to benefit from the experiences of others struggling with gambling and other forms of addiction. In addition, group therapy provides an environment where you can begin to learn to build healthy relationships with others that provide a new model for your life.
