Food Addiction
Food
Food as an agent holds a special status in that, consumed healthily, it provides the necessary sustenance that all human beings require for life. With this in mind, the misuse of food through overeating or under-eating often reflects an unconscious pattern of self-harm that needs to be brought to the surface for examination and explication.
Mind and body are fused as the body is used as a medium to communicate the psychological disquiet within that has not found an outlet for expression. The relationship between mind and body is further confused by social pressures which may encourage you to hide the changes in your body caused by the misuse of food - be they internal or external. Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to disentangle this complex process.
Individual therapy allows a focused analysis of these patterns, an exploration of their origin, and the ability to explore new solutions. Group therapy allows the same advantages as individual therapy while allowing you to benefit from the experiences of others struggling with food issues and/or addiction. In addition, group therapy provides an environment where you can begin to learn to build healthy relationships with others that provide a new model for your life.
