Drug Addiction

Drugs
Illicit drugs are often used in a manner similar to alcohol - to blunt the difficult feelings that go with day-to-day life. Prescription drug abuse may arise for similar reasons or may be the result of consequential dependence after a medically-sanctioned use.

Either way, misuse of the drugs in question robs you of your ability to control your life. Instead of realising your dreams, life often narrows to a focus on bridging the period in between use and on dealing with the consequences of the drugs themselves. Misusers of drugs often withdraw from those around them in an effort to keep knowledge of their habits under wraps.

A new life will require a new way of living that focuses on facing your habit and making your specific pattern of misuse explicit. Only then, can you begin to rebuild your life through finding ways to modify your life so that the damaging patterns of misuse no longer dominate it. Psychotherapy and counselling can be a key component to this process.

Individual therapy allows a focused analysis of these patterns, an exploration of their origin, and the ability to explore new solutions. Group therapy allows the same advantages as individual therapy while allowing you to benefit from the experiences of others struggling with addiction. In addition, group therapy provides an environment where you can begin to learn to build healthy relationships with others that provide a new model for your life.
